St. Joseph's Pre-University College (SJPUC, formerly St. Joseph's College) is a Catholic boys' college in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. It is operated by the Bangalore Jesuit Educational Society. == History == St. Joseph's Pre-University College was founded in 1882 to offer a liberal education for the boys of European and Anglo-Indian families. After India's independence, admission was extended in the 1950s and 1960s to include all students, irrespective of race, religion or caste. The college was started by the French Foreign Missionary Fathers for the purpose of imparting higher education to youngsters. In 1937, the management of the College was handed over to the Jesuits. Students of all religions are admitted and put under the supervision of the religious Fathers and Brothers. SJPUC, in its current form, is a result of the merging of the Pre-University sections of the St. Joseph's College of Commerce and St. Joseph's College of Arts and Science. This was done in accordance with the decision of the Government of Karnataka to bifurcate graduation studies from Pre-University studies in the year 2001. The college building lies on Residency Road, Bangalore which is the centre of the metropolitan city. The college has been recognised by the Government of Karnataka and follows the Karnataka Pre-University syllabus. Education in the streams of Science, Commerce and Arts is provided to students who pass out of 10th grade school.
